STOP! It’s NOT a Fad!

Hey guys and girls!

(Featured photo is from Madam Waffle in Lincoln – Blog post coming soon!)

I apologise – I haven’t posted in a while as i’ve been poorly and waiting to be diagnosed for this. that and the other – But thats another story!

SO! Walking into a Pancake shop and asking if they have anything Gluten Free – they had and offered me fruit..
I obviously understand about cross contamination and how it’s “difficult” to keep things okay… (totally kidding, unsure how this is difficult, but HEY! Thats me!).

It got me thinking about how a lot of people genuinely think Coeliacs Disease and Gluten intolerance is a fad. It also got me thinking about all the annoying and irritating things that are said to me and other people.. SO! Here’s a list of what NOT to say to someone with Coeliacs disease / that is Gluten intolerant – Not just written by me, but by others too!

  1. “Do you need to be gluten free or you jumping on the band wagon?”
Yes, Yes we do. Unless you want to swap bodies for the day and deal with the pains and large amount of toilet paper that needs to be bought?
  2. “Can you eat meat?”
Yes? Are animals made from Wheat?
  3. “One won’t hurt!”
Have you been in the situation of your gut feeling like it’s punching itself over and over? Would you tell someone with a nut allergy that “One wont hurt!” ? No, didn’t think so!
  4. When you ask if a milkshake is gluten free and they say no because it has milk..
Come on now, lactose is dairy.. Gluten is wheat.. they don’t even start with the same letter!
  5. “I think you’re ok to have these, they’re vegan”
    Just don’t… literally, don’t.
  6. “Oh yeh, you’re not allowed milk and butter are you?”
    Again, that’s dairy..
  7. “She’ll grow out of it though won’t she?”
Do you grow out of your stomach and intestine?
  8. “I used to have that but I’m fine now!”
Are stomach transplants expensive? Give me the number..
  9. Don’t give me any of that gluten free rubbish!”
Don’t give me any of that rubbish attitude! Oh wait..

  10. “Well.. what can you actually eat then?”
A LOT! Just not as many takeaways and processed food!
  11. “You should de-sensitise yourself by introducing tiny bits of gluten into your diet so that your body gets used to it.”
That’s not how it works – I beg you read google.
  12. “I’m sure they do baked potato if you ask..”
Maybe I don’t fancy me 8th potato of the week!
  13. When sitting down and asking for a GF menu – “Which one of you is the odd one”
Well, It’s not hard to see which one of you is the insensitive dickhead..
  14. “I got crackers for you as you can’t eat bread!”
    ….Eye Roll.
  15. “Oh you don’t eat wheat, or oats or anything. How do you manage?, I CAN EAT ANYTHING !”
Thanks for that hun, I hope i sleep better tonight now you’ve told me about your amazing diet.
  16. “Just take the noodles out” or “or Just scrap the top off”
Yeah, take those nuts out the Nutella too, nothing like a bit of cross contamination for breakfast.

Coeliac disease is an autoimmune condition. This is where the immune system – the body’s defence against infection – mistakenly attacks healthy tissue.

In coeliac disease, the immune system mistakes substances found inside gluten as a threat to the body and attacks them.

This damages the surface of the small bowel (intestines), disrupting the body’s ability to absorb nutrients from food.

It’s not entirely clear what causes the immune system to act in this way, but a combination of genetics and the environment appear to play a part.

Coeliac disease isn’t an allergy or an intolerance to gluten.

If you do this, the below dictionary explanation is what we do..

 1. the action of rolling one’s eyes, typically as an expression of exasperation, disbelief, or disapproval.
  1. “there’s been plenty of eye-rolling and head-shaking over the pronouncements”
1.causing someone to roll their eyes in exasperation, disbelief, or disapproval.
  1. “the lines are delivered with eye-rolling attempts at whimsy and satire”

There’s ALOT more, but heres a start. If this is you – give it a thought before you speak!

Jeeze.. I’m old..Birthday Wish List.

How hard is it ..when you get old?
I’m turning 27 on Sunday and i’m convinced i’m going to have some next level midlife crisis soon about my age and everyone keeps asking what I want for my birthday..
Since it turns out time machines and getting someone to change to age on my birth certificate are either way to expensive or illegal – I made a birthday list of things i’d like – and realistically, i’ll probably buy myself at some point!

  1. The Mean Girls Burn Book Brush Bag. –

  2.  Various De’lanci pallets –
  3. Spectrum Collection Marble brush pouch –
    Marbleous Brush Belt
  4. This Super cute coat from Boohoo
  5. Number 7, light up mirror – I kinda dropped mine.. it’s cuter in silver but I cant find the link..
  6. More Jordans – cause clearly 4 pairs isn’t enough –
  7. Maple Pancake Yankee Candle – It’s impossible to find this in the UK atm..
  8. In Your Dreams – Lush Bath Set
  9. I wanna go to somewhere that does a really good gluten free afternoon tea.. But i’ve not found anywhere yet!
  10. Last but not least.. I wanna meet some Meerkats.. just because!

There is probably loads more – but I can’t really think! I thought this would be a lot easier than it is! Realistically i’m the easiest person in the world to buy for – just think, what would a 6 year old girl like?! And you’re pretty much there with my presents!

Less than 7 days till i’m old!

GF – Top 10 Pancake Toppings.

Excuse the bad photo on my featured photo! It’s a photo of a video from the most incredible pancakes I had last year.

It’s exactly a week today until pancake day and it’s only last year i had amazing pancakes. Before then they were pretty standard and stodgy due to the Gluten Free flour and ratios we mixed.

Here’s my top 10 pancake toppings ready for next week!

  1. Nutella Pancakes! Pop the Nutella inside the pancakes and fold them over whilst they’re still in the pan, this way it melts. Serve them with orange, cherries, grapes, vanilla ice cream and maple syrup – All these flavours should be okay together, but they SO are! 27718856_10155057189061296_1784996285_n
  2. Bacon and Maple Syrup. You can never go wrong with smoked bacon and syrup. Super simple but SO nice.
  3. Peanut Butter and Banana. The banana breaks the peanut butter up so they’re not super sickly.peanut-butter-banana-pancakes-1
  4. White Chocolate and Strawberry. – Melt the white chocolate and add into the middle of the pancakes, slice some strawberry too! Roll them up so theres filling all over. 9c24ce948c0e68e77feda05e5d612a91
  5. Lemon or Orange Juice and Sugar. – It’s simple, easy, and works. Seems plain, but they’re full of flavour.
  6. Sliced Peaches and Cream – add a little bit of sugar too so it’s a little sweeter.
  7. Full English Pancakes – Sausage, Bacon, Egg, Tomato – Any excuse to have a fry up, and adding pancakes just makes it better. Full-English-breakfast-pancakes
  8. Pizza Pancakes – Make your pancakes as usual, add a pinch more salt, fry, then add tomato paste, cheese and toppings of your choice, place under the grill for 3 minutes to melt the cheese.Savour-pizza-pancake
  9. Chocolate Orange Pancakes. – Add a spoon of coco powder into your pancake mix, fry up, serve with Orange juice poured over them, chocolate orange pieces, fresh orange. Chocolate-orange-pancakes
  10. Rainbow Pancakes – Add some food colouring into the pancake mix and fry as             normal. These need some sort of topping too – but th ey look pretty cool.

Give at least one of these a go, tag me in your post and let me know what you think!

GF – Chilli Con Carne

The weather last week was freezing, snowing, and horrible! So it was time for some comfort food in-between work. We made Chilli con carne and it was beaut. We had it with Gherkins (my favourite), tortilla chips, Sour cream, rice, cheese and guacamole. We got the recipe from the BBC website too, but then altered it to be GF.

This is what you need..

  1. Heat the oil in a large, heavy-based saucepan with a lid and fry the onion and garlic until softened. Increase the heat and add the mince, cooking quickly until browned and breaking down any chunks of meat with a wooden spoon.

  2. Stir in the tinned tomatoes, tomato purée, fresh chilli or chilli flakes, cumin, coriander, cinnamon, and Worcestershire sauce and crumble in the stock cube. Season well with salt and freshly ground black pepper. Bring to a simmer, cover with a lid and cook over a gentle heat for about 50 minutes to 1 hour, stirring occasionally until the mixture is rich and thickened.

  3. Add the kidney beans and fresh coriander. Cook for a further ten minutes, uncovered, before removing from the heat, adding any extra seasoning if necessary. Serve with rice, guacamole, sour cream and everything else!

Enjoy, its really yummy!

Starbucks Gluten Free Menu

Everyone loves Starbucks, and I for one refused to quit my habit just because I was diagnosed with Coeliac disease and was put onto a Gluten Free diet.

I went into town last week and went to Starbucks and was pleasantly suprised with their new Gluten Free Chicken and Pesto Panini – So decided to find out which products are gluten-free, and which have gluten in them?

Starbucks is one of the most cautious places i’ve ever been to when it comes to cross contamination. According to the company’s corporate customer service personnel, nothing prepared at the stores is considered gluten-free due to the possibility of cross contamination from gluten-containing products and ingredients.

Starbucks is, however, gradually adding gluten-free food items to its menu. Most stores carry a gluten-free breakfast sandwich, or gluten free packaged snacks. So theres always something.

Lets start with..

Water: unsurprisingly, Starbucks’ bottled water is gluten-free.

Several bottled Starbucks-labeled drinks, including Starbucks Frappuccino, Starbucks Doubleshot, and Starbucks Doubleshot Energy, are considered gluten-free.

Although you should check the label of anything you’re considering buying to make sure it literally states “gluten-free,” since ingredients change all the time, and realistically – we’re never told.

There appears to be a good reason for avoiding flavored drinks. If you look on the internet many people have reported being “glutened” by various flavored coffee from Starbucks.

However, plain coffee drinks (espresso or brewed coffee) seem to be gluten-free to well below 20 parts per million. Some have also had good luck (me included) with milk-based drinks such as cappuccinos and lattes.

If you’re a tea drinker, Starbucks Tazo teas contain gluten: Green Ginger, Tazo Honeybush, Lemon Ginger, and Tea Lemonade. Maybe just order hot water and then bring your own tea bag?

Blended Drinks

Unfortunately, blended coffee drinks pose more of a threat..

There’s on off info on whether Starbucks’ frappuccino mix contains gluten. Regardless, other ingredients (such as the java chips and some of the sprinkles) definitely contain gluten, and the equipment to blend those drinks is simply rinsed, not cleaned thoroughly, in between uses – so i guess this makes it a threat.

If you must have a frappuccino-style drink, stick with the bottled, gluten-free-labeled options.

Starbucks doesn’t provide ingredient lists for its various syrups and other mixes used to create beverages such as the holiday Pumpkin Spice Latte and Caramel Hot Chocolate, in part because ingredients can vary from store to store and at different times – but if you ask the staff they’re always more than helpful to help you.

When it comes to the Pumpkin Spice Latte and Starbucks’  holiday drinks, as of late 2017  it doesn’t contain gluten ingredients, but the syrup and toppings could be subject to cross-contamination in manufacturing.. So i guess it’s up to you if you want to take that risk or not.

The bottom line: plain coffee or espresso-milk drinks may be okay, but blended and flavored drinks are extremely risky.

Soy Milk

Starbucks have recently changed their Soy Milk. This now contains oats which means if you’re also sensitive to oats, you need to take this into consideration. I’m lucky, i don’t have an issue with dairy to this could be a dilemma.

Bakery Items

Starbucks has added a gluten-free Chicken and pesto panini and it’s beaut. It’s a little soggy but has plenty of filling. It’s soggy because they heat it in the packaging to avoid cross contamination.

Theres also a gluten free brownie in the bakery case – they’re out of the wrapped and surrounded by other cakes. If you ask for one from the fridge, they’ll happily get you one which is individually wrapped – this way you know theres no cross contamination.

Starbucks has been slow to address the demand for decent gluten-free snacks (to say the least). It rolled out a gluten-free brownie, which is really tasty. But before the Chicken and pesto panini it was always a vegan alternative that was gluten free – Give me some meat! Just because i follow a gluten free diet doesn’t mean i follow a vegan diet too!

Starbucks also offers a few individually wrapped bars next to the till, which are prominently labeled gluten-free.

Packaged Food Items

In the packaged food section of several Starbucks, I’ve seen a packaged “protein box” that’s labeled “wheat-free,” with no other information provided on its possible gluten content. Soo… realistically any sauce or flavouring in their could have gluten in.

With Starbucks, i’ve learnt it depends which branch you go to, the one at work is amazing, the one in the town centre – not so much so. All in all, Starbucks are trying and they’re slowly but surely getting there!

GF Eating Out – Chiquito’s

Hey Guys,

Last night me and my mum went shopping and decided to have dinner out. We some how ended up in Chiquito’s and we were pleasantly surprised with the amount of gluten free options that they had on their menu.

IMG_4476 2

They even had Gluten Free Desserts, which we all knows near enough impossible at a lot of places!IMG_4477 2

I ordered a Mock-jito for my drink as I was driving, it was so nice and really refreshing. You could either have it with Ginger beer or Lemonade, so i had lemonade. IMG_4478 2

We were going to order starters but decided not to, so i ordered a side of Halloumi. It came with a Cranberry salsa, that was really sweet but really tasty! These cheese itself was undercooked ( i mean i guess you say cooked? ) and it was really cold on the inside which was sad. IMG_4483 2

My mum ordered a bog standard chilli con carne for her main. It’s one of her favourite dishes and i tried a bit as thats also gluten free and it was SO good! I forgot to take a photo though which is annoying..

I had Steak fajitas for my main. The steak was cooked really well and it was cooked with onions and mixed peppers too.

IMG_4482 2

It came with 4 corn gluten free wraps, fresh Salsa, Cheese, Guacamole and sour cream. IMG_4481 2

It was all really tasty and the service as pretty good too. We’ll definitely be going back to try some other bits from the menu!

New Years Resolutions for 2018

We’re two days in to 2018, and i’ve stuck to my New Years Resolutions.. So far!

I made 10 New Years resolutions this year – and a few of them are really simple and SHOULD be easy to keep (hopefully) So lets see how it goes!

  1. Take my make-up off properly and use proper skin care.
    – I’m so so lazy when it comes to taking my make-up off. I take ages putting it on, but taking it off, it’s a make-up wipe if i’m lucky and can be bothered. Due to this my eyelashes fall out a lot and i always get break outs and then moan. This year i’m actually going to look after my skin.
  2. Watch my diet.
My weight went up and down massively in 2017. This year i’m going to make sure that i eat properly and don’t over or under eat.
  3. Save Money.
This year i’m going to save an amount of money a month and not go into it or take from it, i’ve downloaded a few apps and things to help me save too. I waste money a lot on things I don’t need, like make-up brushes just because I can’t be bothered to clean them. I’ve swapped my £36 foundation to £10 foundation too.. this is a massive thing for me as it has to look perfect in my opinion, else i won’t leave the house!
  4. Stop worrying what other people think.
I have the tendency to care about what other people think too much. Especially when they’re close to people I love or care about. After over a year, i’ve decided if you don’t like me, cool, i’ll pretend you don’t exist.
  5. Be happy.
I’m not going to stress about minimal things, or things that i can’t change. I’m just going to focus on myself and the things and people that i care about and put myself first. If you don’t put me first, i won’t put you first. It’s as simple as that. It’s time to be a little selfish.
  6. Read.
I’m going to read at least 12 books this year, one a month. It sounds like a small amount but i work really odd hours, so this is harder than it seems. I take books when i go on holiday and i love getting lost in a book, rather than watching TV.
  7. Cook.
Instead of eating out all the time, i’m going to cook and mix up recipes more. I love cooking, but again, it’s time and space and a lot of effort when i could climb into bed and nap instead.
  8. Travel.
2017 took us to Rome, Madrid, Barcelona, Paris Twice, Wales and more. This year I hope to do more and more little road trips around the UK and see whats here instead of always jumping on a plane.
  9. Get Healthy.
Walks, Runs, Squats, Whatever my app says, i’m doing. I don’t have the confidence to go to the gym, so home bits to start with is where its at!
I’m two days in, so at least this is a start.. Right?!
  10. Drink more Water & Sleep better.
It’s so east to grab a can of Red Bull or grab a bottle of coke, but grabbing a bottle of water is definitely better for my body and my skin.
I’m going to try and sleep more and get into more of a routine too (which is difficult when you work until 3am..) but we can try, right!?

If I can stick to 6/10 of these i’ll be happy, so fingers crossed… Right?!

Travel – Barcelona

Back in my little corner of the internet for my first new blog post of 2018!

We had such a busy Christmas, traveling here there and everywhere to see the family, but for Dan’s birthday and Christmas present I only got him a few silly little bits – because for his main present, I bought us a little city break and we had a couple of days in Barcelona. He’d been before but all he did was sit on a beach, so it was time for us to explore!

We woke up on the 27th and left my house (in the snow) at 4:45/5am – I was SHATTERED – Yet some how still managed a full face of makeup, as I knew as soon as we got there, we’d be exploring.

We landed around 1pm, got a Taxi to the hotel, got changed quickly and went exploring straight away. We got a taxi into the city centre as we wanted to make the most of our time there, so figured we’d sort out and work out the Metro on the way back, when we were no longer in a rush. IMG_3886

Our hotel was super cute. We stayed in a Spa hotel, yet didn’t actually use any of the spa, or even set foot in it because we were just too busy and the opening times of the actual spa itself clashed with everything we’d planned to do. IMG_3887IMG_3888

As we got into Barcelona city centre, Dan spotted my favourite shop before I did. Sarah told me there was a slide to get in, so of course, i needed to have ago.

The side was actually really fast, and I made Dan go down it first, I needed my instagram photographer at the bottom before me, or who else would i get to take the photos!?

I love, love, LOVE, Sephora.

But I stand by what i’ve always said – it needs an ABH counter. In my opinion it’s literally all thats missing.

We left with my Valentines day present – which i’m annoyingly not allowed until February. I can’t really moan though, i mean we did go to Barcelona for Dan’s birthday / Christmas present in the first place, after all! IMG_3899

I really like graffiti, like actual nice pictures etc, not the rubbish random letters done with spray paint that aren’t actually meant to be anything. I loved looking in the graffiti tunnel in London, and there was quite a lot around Barcelona. Dan hates graffiti, so every time I take a photo of any, he makes comments about any slight smudge of the wrong colour on any brick or paint work for the next week, purely to prove his point.

After exploring and looking around we found a little cafe to get some food, so of course we’re in spain, so we ordered Paella. IMG_3901

The place itself was super cute, it wasn’t very warm though, I was freezing whilst everyone else as sitting in T-shirts more than happy.IMG_3903

We ordered Olives to start, but they came with gherkins and onions, so i was in my element. I just stunk for a while after.IMG_3918

When the Paella came it was MASSIVE. Dan’s convinced it was only for 2 people, but i’m pretty sure 4 people could have eaten it and been more than happy. IMG_3926

Wherever we went to eat we kept being offered bread, and Dan kept declining it which was nice, look at him thinking about me and my non bread diet. IMG_3933

I got super excited about the Christmas lights so wanted to photo with them – turns out that the photo we actually took with them – they flashed off. Absolutely gutted, i promise they were cute!

I took a photo of these crisps just because they were Barcelona crisps and it made me kinda chuffed..

On our way back we went to La Rambla.

La Rambla is a street in the centre of Barcelona. It’s lined with trees and a mall. It stretches for around 1.2 kilometres connecting in the centre with the Christopher Columbus monument at Port Vell. It’s full of pavement cafe’s and souvenir kiosks.

It’s honestly amazing, you just need to be really careful as theres a lot of pick pockets around. Luckily we had our things in my bag which i wore round my front.

This may seem like nothing, and I can’t eat it because it’s full of Gluten anyway. But look! A bucket full of McDonalds Chicken Nuggets and Cheese bites! My Niece and Nephew would be in heaven with this! IMG_3936

The following day we woke up early as Tom and Alex had got us tickets to a tour of Camp Nou.

We left the hotel and followed google maps for all of 20 seconds, before we realised you could literally see it from out hotel.. Safe to say we took a slow walk down and managed to not get lost! IMG_3955

We got there and there was loads to see, and we found out that Dan’s not so short after all! .. Well, I mean, he’s slightly taller than Messi so? IMG_3957

There was SO much to look at.IMG_3958

Dan had an amazing time, even if i did make him take 400 photos… IMG_3978

By the end of the tour he said he was “All photo’d out” and we were really hungry so we took a walk and found somewhere to eat, and ordered some Tapas. IMG_4026

Our eyes were clearly too big for our bellies, we ordered Patatas Bravas, Garlic Prawns (which Dan liked because they were already half peeled..)

Squid, Chorizo Sausage,IMG_4029

And a plate of Meat and Cheese. IMG_4030

We were SO FULL! We jumped on the Metro (We found some train tickets that were like 14.50 euros, that covered us for unlimited travel for 48 hours – so these were perfect for us.

We ended up back at La Rambla, because we really wanted to see it properly, in the day time. IMG_4032

As soon as we got into the market area it was UNREAL. This isn’t even 1/4 of the first  chocolate stand. IMG_4044

Marzipan fruits, and fruit jellies, IMG_4045

Look at how many jelly sweets there are! AND the fried eggs were bigger than my hands! IMG_4046

Fish, and nuts, fruit, chips, pizza, crisps, whatever you can think of, it was there. IMG_4047

I got some chocolate covered strawberries that were 1 euro ( i think ) they were so yummy, and gluten free too! IMG_4052

Here you decide what you want to eat, and they cook it for you there and then. IMG_4058

More chocolate… i was legit in heaven. IMG_4060

They had truffles that were genuinely bigger than my hand..IMG_4064

We walked out the other side of the market and walked around. I really wanted to see some of the Gaudi buildings around Barcelona, but as we were there for such a short time, I came to terms with the fact we weren’t going to have time, so we’d need to come back to see them. IMG_4075

Until I found some really cute and interesting looking stained glass windows and was staring at them for ages, i’m pretty sure Dan got bored of this, so we walked around the other side of the building to the front… Andddd it turns out we were already at one of The Gaudi Museums.. IMG_4080

After this we decided to head towards the Metro.. and of course do a little more shopping, so Dan being Dan, and knowing how much I love Sephora ( I had walked around the football stadium with him for hours the same day ) said we could go back to Sephora. I won a hair treatment but have beauty works hair in the front of my head, so figured that was a no. They swapped it for a mini make over for me, so I queued up to get my mini make over, took one look at the state of her pallet and decided that was definitely going to be a no.. IMG_4085

We walked some more, it got cold and we some how got peckish, so we stopped at Planet Hollywood in Barcelona. I had a Mocktail (non alcoholic cocktail) with orange juice, mango juice and red bull, it was SO nice but super sweet! IMG_4119

The gluten free options were amazing, but we knew they’d be good because of when we went to the Planet Hollywood at Disneyland Paris. IMG_4120

We ordered Nachos “For 2 to share” but they came out and they were absolutely HUGE! We definitely didn’t need mains.. IMG_4122

So we went straight to dessert! It was SO good! This was a chocolate brownie sundae, but the brownie was gluten free. It was so yummy and warm.

Warm brownie with ice cream is something I really miss from when i was able to eat normal food. IMG_4124

We left and it had got really cold. I say this but the coldest it was the entire time we were there was 14 degrees, so i’m kind of unsure how i can say it was cold when it was -4 at home! IMG_4128

The following morning we were going to get the Metro to the airport as it was a simple get on and wait 32 minutes and get off at the last stop. The Metro station was also a 6 minute walk from our hotel, so really easy and super close. There was problems on the track, luckily i got a notification on my phone at 1am. So we ended up getting a taxi.

Heres my, it’s 4am, how is it already home time face.

We got to the airport and headed straight for “breakfast”.

Everywhere we go we always make sure we have a Burger King or McDonalds, so Dan decided we were getting a Burger King at the airport. When we arrived he didn’t fancy it and neither did I.

This was until I saw a huge sign that said “SIN GLUTEN!”

Gluten free Burger King! This meant we were definately having Burger King for Breakfast now!

Check out my Gluten Free Burger, WITH BREAD all wrapped up like a normal burger. The bread was so soft and lovely too! I wish they did this in the UK.

We got on the plane 50 minutes late because we were delayed. Then the plane didn’t take off for another hour and a bit. We were supposed to land back at Birmingham at 8:50am and didn’t land until 12:30pm. We wouldn’t have minded if we were in the airport at this time, but we were literally stuck on the plane. It’s safe to say I was really happy to finally get off of the plane!

We collected the car, and headed home. We climbed into our Christmas PJ’s and watched way to much of a box set on sky Q and snuggled into bed.

I cannot wait for our next adventure, and our first adventure of 2018!

Merry Christmas – Seasons Greetings, Just Give Me The Pigs In Blankets…

Merry Christmas – Seasons Greetings, Just Give Me The Pigs In Blankets –

It’s December 25th and you’re back at my little corner of the internet, and i’ve never felt less Christmassy.

Admittedly I’m excited to sit at the table and eat way to many helpings of Christmas dinner, all the pigs in blankets and of course all of the cauliflower cheese, but other than that and seeing my little people – the rest of the day? Nah.

A few years ago i was the most over excited person on the planet when it came to Christmas. Yet now I’m kinda over it. I’m 26 years old and other than watching my niece and nephews open their presents and help them balance on their scooters (which i wouldn’t ever possibly even consider missing for the world) I kind of don’t have a plan for the rest of the day.

Christmas has changed so much since I was little. Now its all about how many presents, who spent the most, driving from A to B, C to D, and probably a Z too, all on one day.

And honestly? I can’t be bothered.

I’d much rather wake up around people I care about, not be around people that couldn’t care less about me, or that are unwelcoming or quite frankly rude – why am i stressing about these people – i’d rather chill and spend the day doing what i want to do.

So here, have 10 reasons why Christmas is overrated –

You will be skint the whole of December.

Being kissed WAY too close to the mouth by relatives you barely know..

That thing where you go outside and it’s so cold that when you go back inside, your fingers and toes burn.

Social media becomes the worst place on the planet – do i need to see 234532 christmas dinners?

The use of #Blessed #LuckyGirl – just stop.

You never know if you’re buying the right gifts – I put so much effort into this, and you don’t like it? Cool.

Three words: Seeing your family. – are they my family? I only see you for 3 hours at Christmas? Are you actually family or is it just that we’re “related”.

And the intense Q&A that follows.. Yes I still work in nightclubs, yes i do have a lot of tattoos, yes I’m aware my hand tattoo is a job stopper – please tell me more about how much you know me and my life when, again, i’ve seen you for 3 hours in the last 365 days..

You remember you still have to make New Year’s resolutions.. That last a day.

You know the merriment will be over far too soon. – When you FINALLY start to enjoy Christmas, it’s over and you then  have to wait another 365 days for it to happen in this order all over again..

Maybe i’ve out grown it, maybe I’m having some next level early mid life crisis.

Who knows?

Counting down the days until I fly to Barcelona and i’m stress free for a couple of days!

GF – 15 Minute, Quick Tea.

It’s cold, it’s dark by like 4pm and although we’re only a few days away from Christmas, i’ve never felt less Christmassy..

I got in from work not knowing what I fancied for dinner, and I was really annoying myself. So Of course, it had to be something with chips (I really needed the carb input..) so Garbage fries it is!

So, heres a super easy way of making them in less than 20 minutes!

You need –

  • 2 Potatoes sliced into chips (keep the skin on)
  • Salt
  • Pepper
  • Paprika
  • Parsley
  • 2 Eggs
  • 1 Green Chilli
  • 1 Red Chilli
  • 2 Salad Tomatos
  • Spring Onions
  • Smoked Bacon
  • Cheder & Red Leicester Cheese (grated)
  1. Slice your potatoes into chips, keep the skin on and get them in the fryer or oven ASAP.
  2. Dice the tomato, Slice the Chillis and Spring onions.
  3. Cut your bacon into cubes, and fry it until it’s crispy in a little olive oil.
  4. Grate the cheese.
  5. Get your chips out and drain the excess oil off of them.
  6. Fry your eggs – We want runny yolks!
  7. Add salt and pepper to taste and shake them to even out the seasoning.
  8. Add your chips to an oven proof dish and sprinkle the cheese on top – pop them in the oven for 4-6 minutes so the cheese melts.
  9. Get the chips out, sprinkle your crispy bacon, spring onions, chillis, and diced tomato on top.
  10. Add your Eggs on top and sprinkle with paprika and Parsley and the left over grated cheese.

I had mine with loads of Sour Cream, and it definitely filled the Carb Craving! This fed 2 of us and there was still LOADS left…Oooops.
The best thing about this is it’s naturally Gluten Free so there is no need to swap anything!

#SundayFunday – Snow Day!

Here you are again, at my little corner of the internet, so here is a quick #SundayFunday blog post as it’s been a while!

We had a lazy night on Saturday which consisted of way to much “Bates Motel” on Netflix (My new obsession) and some Christmas films. We were supposed to go to Birmingham to the Christmas markets but the weather had other ideas, so we’ll try again next week!

We woke up on Sunday and theres was a solid 4-5 inches of snow.

I Live in the sticks (middle of nowhere, in a little village) and we’re at the highest point in the county, so where ever anyone else has snow or rain, we always get it 10 times worse.. So, it was time to get the cold comfy clothes out, and enjoy the snow!

I got this super cute coat, with the furriest hood from a little internet boutique shop, but theres very similar on boohoo. I love these beanies too! They’re like £3 each from primary and they have so many different colours.

My step dads sister has gone away, so we had her puppy as well as ours, they look cute but it was hard work walking them together and trying not to fall over! (Follow Smiffy on instagram – @ SmiffyTheShihtzu and keep up to date with his daily life!)

If your boyfriend isn’t your personal photographer is he even your boyfriend? He uses the portrait camera on my phone so much better than i do!

This was the snow at the start of the day, we had 3 more blizzards since this photo was taken..

Look how cute our back garden looks covered in snow? Yes, that is a full nativity scene in the play house. Oakfield goes OTT for Christmas when it comes to decorations!

We took my little nephew to the beach in the summer and me and my mum showed him how to build sandcastles. He’s 2 in January and he’s totally obsessed. So my sister got his bucket and spade out for him.. Most people build snow men, but he built snow castles instead!

Look at our garden in the dark. It’s literally so cute at Christmas! Theres so many lights and theres nothing better than sitting in the conservatory with the heating on and looking out!

Safe to say after a freezing day, we climbed into bed and had a movie night, and there was nothing better! We we’re freezing so we lit all the candles, had a snug and ate our body weights in food. – The perfect date night.

Next week we have a busy weekend. It’s my last event of 2017, Birmingham Christmas markets & shopping AND furniture shopping for our bedroom

.. if the weather lets us that is!

M&S Gluten Free

Hey Guys, Welcome back to my little corner of the internet.

As my ASDA Gluten Free post seemed to help a lot of you (Thanks for messaging me and letting me know what you’ve tried etc, I really appreciate it!) I thought i’d try one for M&S.

Below i’ve got a selection of their normal GF Range and a selection of their “Christmas Range” also. Take a look and if you’ve tried anything else let me know!

Just to let you know, I missed a few photos, so found them on google!

Beef in Black bean sauce with white rice
I Personally didn’t like this, but I’m not a massive fan of Chinese food. also at £9 a portion, i’m probably not going to buy this again.SD_FD_F64C_00476768_NC_X_EC_0

Sweet and Sour Chicken with white rice
I liked this, but again there was something missing. For me it needed a lot of salt and again, this was £8. £8 for a ready meal to me seems insane..MS_FD_F64C_00476737_NC_X_EC_0

Spaghetti Bolognese
It’s hard to go wrong with this as it’s a pretty simple dish. It was nice, nicer when I added a lot of parmesan onto the top of it too! This was £7.

I really like M&S’ Lasagna. It has a lot of cheese and sauce on it and is really nice with a side salad and some home made garlic bread to make it into a meal! This was £7, so the meal does end up expensive by the time you’ve bought the other bits.MS_FD_F64C_00450089_NC_X_EC_0

Mac and Cheese
Their Mac and Cheese is BEAUTIFUL! It’s not as good as Amy’s kitchen’s, but it is still really nice. It’s really creamy and you get ALOT. This is £7.

Spaghetti Carbonara
This was nice, even nicer with extra cheese, but isn’t everything? The portion of this seemed a lot more than the other pasta dishes they do other than the Mac and Cheese. This was £7.

Chicken Arrabiata
This was literally BEAUTIFUL! The chicken was cooked perfectly, there was enough sauce and the pasta wasn’t hard. One of the best Gluten Free ready meals they sell, easily. This was £7.

Smoked pork shoulder with apple barbecue sauce
Don’t let the picture confuse you, it is just the meat. It’s nice, but it’s not £12 nice. It would be better as a burger topper or mixed in with a pasta bake. MS_FD_F38C_00046367_NC_X_EC_0

Tempura Chicken Tenders with Sweet Chilli Sauce
I can’t even describe these. They’re AMAZING!
I was worried the batter would go soggy but it didn’t and they were crispy and just.. basically you need to go and try these. The Sweet Chilli Sauce isn’t too spicy either, it’s got just enough of a kick to it. These were £8, but the packet itself could easily serve 4 people and they’re suitable for freezing too!

Scotch Eggs
I gave my mum a bit of one to try and she agreed they taste exactly the same as normal Scotch Eggs. These are something we ALWAYS have in the fridge now! They’re not the usual smaller portions cause their gluten free either, theres a full egg in there.

Cheese Crackers
They taste really good, they’re only £1.99 too.. But you kind of only get 4/5 whole ones in the entire packet. I ended up pouring mine onto my plate and dipping them in butter and grated cheese.. Still good though, but try not to forget to take your butter out the fridge a while before so it’s as soft as possible and slightly spreadable!

Chicken Pie
I didn’t have much filling in mine, the pasty was pretty dry too. When I had it the second time i added some brushed egg on top of it and it cooked and tasted a lot better.

Cod Fillet Fish Cakes
These are beaut, Crispy and full of fish! Bigger than i thought they’d be too. I have them with either a Salad or Chips and mushy peas.marks-and-spencer-gluten-free-cod-fishcakes

Rhubarb Crumble
I really wanted this to be amazing, it wasn’t crunchy just very soggy. I’m going to try it again though and try and cook it slightly differently! Maybe i’ll try and add extra custard too. I’m not ready to give up on this yet!

Steak Pie
This was the same as the pasty in the Chicken pie above. This one did have more filling though which was a bonus I guess. Pies are really easy to make when you have GF Pastry in, so i’ll probably just stick to that from now on!

M&S has released it’s “Gluten Free Christmas Range” So I’ve tried a few bits that are below. If you’ve tried any of them, let me know!

British Ham Platter
This is £20 for around 40 slices. Theres 3 different types of ham which would be perfect for a family gathering.

The Gluten Free Party Selection
This comes with 64 pieces. A mixture of 18 barbeque pork belly squares, 12 mini chicken kievs, 10 sticky chicken yakitori kebabs, 12 sticky asian style chicken lollipops AND 12 mini toad in the hole with caramelised onion chutney.. ALL of this is only £30 and it honestly tastes great! You need to try it over the Christmas period.

Tandoori king prawn ring
This is £10 and the prawns are really meaty. Grab these if you see them cause they’re almost always sold out.MS_FD_F04C_00392778_NC_X_EC_0

Sticky Chicken Yakitori Kebabs
These are amazing, theres so much meat on them and you get 20 for £14 which is an absolute bargain.MS_FD_F04C_00973489_NC_X_EC_0

Gluten Free Sandwich selection
You get 14 Quarters which is like, 3 and a half sandwiches for £13. It isn’t the best value but theres a lot of filling in the sandwiches. MS_FD_F07C_00387972_NC_X_EC_0

Cheese Celebration Cake
I mean look at this, Is this not a cheese lovers dream? If gluten free cakes haven’t stepped up by the time I get married, this has to be my cake.. Or maybe I should just be a little extra on my next birthday (which is in February, just so you don’t forget guys..) and get this as my cake! Although it is £155..MS_FD_F06C_00821896_NC_X_EC_0

Bacon and Cheese Rolls
Cheese wrapped in smoked bacon.. AND you get 32 for £8. It’s safe to say i’ve just *attempted* to eat an entire pack of these for dinner.. and i’ve got no shame about it. They’re amazing! Grab these whilst you can.

Hog Roast on Mini Crackling plates
You get 24 for £14. They are literally circles of crackling with pulled pork, sage and onion stuffing and caramelised apple sauce on. They’re delicious! I hope they do these all year round.SD_FD_F04C_00938327_NC_X_EC_0

New York Cheesecakes
And now it’s time for something a little sweeter. The Vanilla New York cheesecakes. They used to come with 1 in a box and it was kinda too big for one portion but not enough for 2. They’ve now upped their game and you get two in a box for £3.50 and the portion size is pretty damn perfect! Make sure you try these if you see them!

Gluten Free Extremely Chocolatey Party Cake
This is £25 which is mad expensive for the size it is. They say it’s 16 portions but unless you’re a mouse it’s about 10-12.

Christmas Gift Bag / Hamper
This is a bargain! It’s reduced from £40 to £32, but i feel even at £40 it was still a bargain! You get a bottle of Bordeaux Merlot, A Gluten Free Christmas Cake, Cluten Free mince pies (x4) , Gluten & Dairy free Christmas pudding, Hazelnut and Cinnamon Latte popcorn, Gluten and Dairy free box of chocolates, the Junco Shopping bag AND it’s sent with a personal message too! This is the perfect gift for your gluten free Friends, Families or work colleagues!

If you see anything else Gluten free in M&S let me know so I can give them a try myself!

My Top 10 Christmas Films

So, the question is; is there anything better then coming in from work when it’s freezing and raining outside, putting on PJ’s and climbing into bed with a Christmas film and hot chocolate?!

Okay Okay, So I know it’s still November but in my defence SKY have had a Christmas channel since before halloween (they got rid of it for Halloween weekend but then it came back). So of course i’ve been taking every spare moment I have to watch Christmas films!

Heres my top 10 Christmas films (not in any order, because the top 10 simply can’t be put in any order!)

  1. The Grinch

UnknownEveryone loves The Grinch – and if they claim they don’t, they’re lying. It’s always the first Christmas film on in our house.

  2. Home Alone

My nephew LOVES home alone, he watched it last year for the first time. He’s 9 now and thought it was hilarious.. Which to be honest, watching a kid save the day and battle burglars makes my Christmas every year. We did have to tell him not to do any of it though!

  3. Arthur Christmas

Arthur Christmas is a new ish Christmas film. It was out in 2011. It’s about which of Santa’s sons will take over to be the next Santa and a lot of special secret agent elves. It’s a really good watch and my niece and nephews get it on DVD every year and we have to hide it, else they end up watching it ALL year! I’m pretty sure it’s on our SKY planner all year too…

  4. The Holiday

The Holiday is an American romance comedy. It was out in 2006 and my boss at work told me to watch it. I cried.. It’s such a funny film but i won’t say anymore. I fully recommend watching it!

  5. Elf

“Buddy the elf, what’s your favourite colour?!”
Elf is Elf – enough said really! Everybody loves elf and if you say you don’t, well..
“You sit on a thorne of lies!”.

  6. The Muppets Christmas Carol

The Muppets Christmas Carol was released the year after I was born – in 1992! Yet I still watch it atleast 3 times every christmas! Even now at 26, it drives my mum mad and she still hates it.. It’s a great film and the fact it’s the muppets makes it even better! It’s the normal Christmas carol film and story of Christmas… But better! 26 Christmas’ later and i’ll be watching this, as usual!

  7. The Polar Express

The Polar express is magical! We take my niece and nephews on the Santa express every year, so they’re convince they’ve been on the Polar Express! I love this film so much, it’s a Christmas eve film!

.. and Christmas day, and boxing day.

  8. Miracle on 34th Street

A Miracle on 34th street is the film I climb into bed every year on Christmas eve and put on without fail, hoping to fall asleep early so i can wake up early. It never works though, it’s too lively and it makes me just want to go shopping..

  9. Fred Claus

Fred Claus is on SKY every year over Christmas LOADS! It’s really funny and i can’t wait to sit my nephew down this year and watch it with him now he’s a little older!

  10. Mickey’s Once upon a Christmas

Mickey’s once upon a Christmas is what we watch just after we’ve opened presents every year. I first got it for my 18th birthday (in February) as a joke.. Yet it’s stuck and we watch it every Christmas now. You can literally pick it up from a supermarket for around £3 too!

And although its meant to be my favourite 10 films I need to add an 11. Just because if i don’t my boyfriend will moan…

  11.  The Snowman

The Snowman and the Snow dog is what Dan rushes back to watch every Christmas eve.. and he argues this is single handedly the best Christmas film. So if i didn’t put it on here, there would be trouble!
It was out in 2012, but was a book before, which was released in 1978, and we all read it when we were younger. I remember my sister being obsessed, i’m pretty sure she even had the Snowman bed sheets at one point.. We watch it on Christmas day in the evening with all the family too!

So, who’s about to climb into bed with a Christmas film now? Cause i’ve been doing this since mid November!

    26 Sleeps till Christmas!

Black Friday Grabs

It’s November, it’s freezing and as much as I love a bargain and shopping, even I’m not getting caught up in shops on Black Friday unless I’m desperate…

This is the thought I had until i realised I needed shoes for a wedding the following day. So in the car we jumped and off to Fosse Park we went..

I got some decent things though. I looked online and BooHoo were offering quite a bit of money off. I’m pretty sure it was up to 50%. I have a love hate relationship with BooHoo – Love their prices, hate their customer service..

I managed to get this top which is really thick and warm for £4.

This jacket had been on the website for coming up to a year priced at £75. Anywhere else i’d have bought it, but BooHoo £75?! Not a chance.. On Black Friday I managed to grab the last size 6 for £24.dzz53006_black_xl_2

I got two of these body suits, both £4 each too. dzz89988_grey marl_xl

We went to boots and after looking around I wasn’t too impressed. I did manage to bag a bottle of my favourite perfume for £25 instead of £60 though. 617aoEPmHdL._SX522_

I was worried about what to wear at the wedding on the Saturday so I grabbed this dress whilst we were out. It was reduced from £25 to £14. It’s a really cute dress it just doesn’t suit me at all, so I’m going to take it back this week. shell-pink-sequin-embroidered-mesh-tunic-dress

I needed shoes so grabbed these. They were £9 instead of £20. I didn’t expect much but they were actually really comfy! I managed to wear them the entire day of the wedding without my feet hurting in the slightest! black-suedette-ankle-strap-block-heels

I didn’t get much, but at the same time more than enough! – What did you manage to grab?!

GF – Christmas Desserts

So it’s coming towards the end of November which means most people are in Christmas shopping mode! Whether is presents and gifts or food, everyone loves new things and products – and of course a bargain!

We went to ASDA at Fosse Park and had a look at their Christmas Gluten Free range of deserts – and we were pleasantly surprised!

It’s not that long ago that even getting a cake or a loaf of bread that didn’t resemble a door stop or a brick was impossible – so ASDA, You’ve stepped up, and we’re all very grateful!

mp gf

£1.50 for 4 gluten free mince pies?! This is mad, they’re usually £2 each from the bakery near me! 5060227120719_280_IDShot_3

This Christmas cake is from the ‘Extra Special’ range… and it better be extra special for £6.50..5060227120702_280_IDShot_3

He’s no Colin the Caterpillar, but he is Roddy the Reindeer and thats enough for me! He’s £6, so if your birthdays in December.. This is a must! 5060227120696_280_IDShot_3

Again from the “Extra Special” range is this Yull Log. I’ve actually tried this, It has ALOT of icing but its really nice with some cream poured over it! It’s £4.50, but you don’t need a huge slice to calm the sugar crave!5054781765202_280_IDShot_3

I NEED to try this Chocolate and salted caramel naked layered gateau. I’ve been back a few times and it’s always out of stock – If anyone tries this, let me know how it is please! It’s £6.50, which again, nearly £7 for a cake is ALOT. 5054781729587_280_IDShot_3

I really want to try this gingerbread tree kit! It’s £3. I had their ginger bread kit last year and it was really heavy and pretty dry. Fingers crossed this recipe is different! 5054781745181_280_IDShot_3

£4 Christmas cupcakes for £2.50.. They’re basically asking you to buy 2 boxes at once!5054781745204_280_IDShot_3

This Red Velvet loaf cake is AMAZING! It’s £3. I was worried it was going to be really dry, but it isn’t at all. This will definitely be eaten a few times a week as the cake itself is pretty big and comes in a resealable container.5054781749561_280_IDShot_3

This Ice Christmas cake is £2.60, and also resembles a door stop, or brick.. I’d pay a little more and get the “Extra Special” one..5054781749578_280_IDShot_3

Again, I haven’t been able to find these yet,  but you get 6 for just £1.20. Perfect as a snack for yourself or a little one! 5054781544043_280_IDShot_3

This christmas pudding was actually really heavy and stodgy. It’s £1.50 but it isn’t very big. Its an individual pudding but i prefer the Free From ASDA’s own Christmas Pudding Below.. 5054781052913_280_IDShot_3

This Christmas pudding is £3, it’s bigger and also tastes a lot more amazing! It doesn’t sit as heavy and isn’t as stodgy either. It’s really nice and i’d totally recommend trying it. You can scoop it out the container if you don’t want to eat it all at once too.

So! Exciting news, if you look in the fridge isle, with the normal desserts, theres loads that aren’t actually labeled as Gluten Free – but if you read through the ingredients they actually are!

This Belgian Chocolate and salted caramel roulade is £4 and its huge! It can easily be pudding for 5 people.  5054781123132_280_IDShot_3

Not feeling in a chocolate mood? Try the Sicilian Lemon and Mascarpone roulade – it’s also £4 and is the same size as the chocolate one above. 5054781307945_280_IDShot_3

ASDA’s extra special hand finished raspberry and prosecco pavlova stack – It’s £5. I haven’t found it yet as it’s always sold out. This is one i HAVE to try asap though, it looks amazing!

It’s only £2.50 for 2 toffee and pecan roulades! Thats £1.25 each.. I could only manage half of one and i have a massive sweet tooth! 5054781795629_280_IDShot_3

If you want something slightly less sweet (only slightly less) then they also sell Raspberry Roulades too! They’re the same size and again they’re £2.50.5054781795636_280_IDShot_3

The ASDA Extra Special Belgian Chocolate and black forest meringue was SO GOOD! This is definitely one to eat after a family meal or when you’re sat in bed and want to binge eat sweet things with a chick flick on – it’s £6 though.. so not a dessert for every week! 5054781795667_280_IDShot_3

And lastly, the Belgian Chocolate and salted caramel pavlova wreath. I didn’t like this, it was way, way, WAY too sweet for me! Maybe in very small amounts i’d actually manage a portion! This is £6.5054781795674_280_IDShot_3

Found any other Christmassy Gluten Free Goodies in ASDA? Drop me a message and let me know so I can try them!
